I meant to post this a while ago but have only just got around it.... opps! Anyway its a bunch of photos and news from our friend at true bmx in Wanaka. The first two photos are of Wanaka skatepark, James from Ture BMX is on the skate park committee and at the moment there in the process of getting some major additions to the park, the additions are going to be absolutely huge.. for example reefton is 2100sq meters an wanakas going to be just under 3000sq meters!!! f@#k!!! and apparently there pushing towards the lines of 10 and 8ft deep bowels and snake runs! (whats the f@#k is wrong with auckland city council!). Wanaka is also getting a new Jump Park and the locals are working on a set of privatetrails which is rad. And also Lake Hawea is also getting a brand new skate park... so its all go down south... there all ways seems to be a hand full of good reasons to go south.

Hey its Jaden, first off that park looks sick, looks like all the smaller towns in NZ get the coolest parks ever. I hope auks council gets their asses of the ground wid a half descent park.
i think ur damn right jaden!!! why is it that everywere else have really nice parks and a council that is willing to negoiate.. when auckland is like the biggest city?? i mean vic is a good park.. but years an years have gone and its time for a change!! yeah bro, Seth
Cos Auckland, wheather it be manukau, auckland city, north shore etc, coucil's are full of and run by ignorant unaccepting tossers that would rather ban the problem alternate sports i.e bmx and skating then have to go thru their own ridiclous resource consent processes to build appropriate facilities in public spaces.Councils south and north of auckland accept that these sports are becoming more and more popular and make provisions in their district plans and budgets. Aucklands councillors are to busy trying to be the saviour of all the infrastructure, traffic and migration problems rather than put their arses, reptuations and abit of money on the line and signoff on skate/bike facilties - mainly cos they just dont get it and because joe public might complain. .........Wanaka looks sweet.
I'm happy with vic if they got rid of it id be pissed haha. We don't need a new park, just some additions e.g. ditch that concrete crap on the side near the trees and add in another run with a spine and some other cool shit. Vics a big place its just not utilized.
"that concrete crap" is the best part of vic park for a street rider.all these ramps are making kids arms skinny. If you want to be heard in council you need to either be a significant individual or have large scale support behind you. Maybe a bmx rally outside the mayors house is neccessary, with the redbull hummer sounds blasting some protest chants- we could throw down the next hop comp in his drive way to!- we could catch it all on C4 !!
yeah fair enough, but i reackon there is food for thought closer to the time that vicky park gets pulled down that bmxer's rally together and protest should a new park not be built!
It is going to but just not at vics, sticky's is gonna be moved to a temp spot while the guy that's in charge of what's going on with the council suss's out what to do, he's got a pretty gnarly job and he wants the best for everyone, skaters and bikey's, he's got a shitload of red tape to get through and this shiz is pretty much the bottom of the list for the ak city council, sucks but that's reality I guess.
just for the record it's trubmx (trail riders united bmx) not TRUE or TURE but www.trubmx.blogspot.com , the wanaka jump park is average an does not run nice at all, it still needs work even tho it's open to the public (built by mountain bikers what else would ya expect haha), not for me to do tho i've got my own secret trails on private land 1/4's,Sound system , hamocks, loads of hips, deep berms, rollers ,loads of tools etc,25000 litre water tank , pocket jumps & doubles haha none of that table top time wastin as it's such a waste of dirt as well !!
Wanaka sk8 park will be gettin another 1000 square meters not 2000 , total area after new extentions will be about the same as REEFTON ! I'm organizing a big jam/comp for early to mid November 08 @ Wanaka Sk8 Park , to help raise funds for the extentions !! more on that soon updates at www.trubmx.blogspot.com & if your plannin a mish down here over summer i got 4 spare beds in d spare room hola @ trubmx@yahoo.co.nz if ya want roof ! Dig trails suckaz ! ya dig ?
yo cam from the mulisha here, i have been in queenstown all winter snowboarding. and the trails, park and scene is that sweet here im planning on stayin on over summer. sure beats watching my back riding manucow skatepark,. and wanaka looks mad to my advice move to the south island.
The best thing you can do when it comes to dealing with city councils is be peristant, and professional. present your argument with relevent information, get involved where ever and when ever you can, that means going to every meeting where vickys or other skate park stuff might be discussed, put in submissions whenever they are asked for from the public, write letters to your local councilors. Above everything else always deal with them professionaly, dont perpetuate the steriotype of drucken noisy rabble (even though thats who we all really are) did I mention be percistant??? This advice comes from the inside by the way, If you keep at coucils and do it right the wheels do slowly turn.
From Will, from Lake Wanaka Cycling, re-truebmx comments on Lismore bike park. He was offered input to help build, but turned it down. And now only offers bitter dissing from afar. Sorry about the table tops, but as a public park the council were keen on the park being useable by many riders. The DMR Dirt Jam on 25/10 got 48 riders and about 200 spectators, all stoked, so quit whining.
