Its so depressing knowing that paroa, of all places, is getting a sweeter skatepark than most of the auckland ones. BUILD SOME IN (central) AUCKLAND!

Why build every thing in auckland? You guys arn't the only people in new zealand. You aucklanders should try growing up riding a little tiny shit skate park. you guys should be greatfull after all you have a good 20 or so skate parks. Build em in the little towns, They will be respected and more appreciated!!

almost half live in auckland. and i have also seen that little towns attract less attention if they have a mean park. on the many road trips ive been to, the little towns that have mean parks are still fill of glass and have people hang round down there cos its a place to be, not to skate/bike. Bigger towns attract more influenced riders/skaters a they have more access to the current events in that sport. every town deserves a mint park but alot more people live in auckalnd and what is here isnt all that amazing.

I have grown up on shitty small parks, namely Upland bowl and Vic Park, ride Vic for half an hour and then tell me again if it's good or not.

ahhh so anoyign. the designs these days are more of skateboarding design for parks or a skater designing them... need more of a bike skatepark or a bikers point of veiw drawn up instead of soo many ledges an rails add more lips!!

they look like art not parks!!

The reason why they look like art and not parks is to make them appeal more to the council, there for making the council more likely to want to build them. This is what they are doing in Australia at the moment and works well. Skateparks are a pretty ugly thing.. so if they can be made attractive there is a higher chance of the council accepting to getting them built, makes sense right?

fuck I'm over cunts bitching about "oooh no we have no parks in auckland", you have plenty! GET OVER IT!!!

We're not whinging about having no parks, just that all the central ones which are supposed to 'cater to pro/competetion grade skaters and bmx riders' that just don't live up to that.

I didn't relise there was pro bmx riders in auckland??? my mistake! shit you guys must be waaaay better than any one also in the country!!!

^^^^^ haha true that. Look at hamilton. We have 2 average parks, (melville, fairfield) and we arn't complaining. + hamilton does produce pro bmxers. build the parks in hamilton, fuk auckland!!

August 7, 2009 at 11:39 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I totally agree with the comment above. When ever i go to hamilton the riders just ride. When i go to auckland they just complain about how they have dum parks when they have some of the best parks in the country. Build them anywhere.. just not auckland.

I think when Stephen said 'catering to pro/competition grade skaters and bmx riders' .. he was talking about international BMXers visiting Auckland, not Aucklanders being Pros!
Auckland is NZ biggest city and gets a fair amount of international riders visiting every year, it would be nice to have a large skate park to compliment that. Like every other major city in the world.

i agree with bevan steven and jaden, people from auckland are not "whinging" about having shit parks or no parks its just that when we get new ones made for us they are all really small and only good for like grinds and stuff e.g. the new mount albert park. we should have some more money invested in making some decent parks because as bevan said around 1/4 of the country lives here making it the biggest city in nz. no one is saying that these small towns dont deserve these mean parks but the government/council should spend more money on the parks which will get used more such as the ones in auckland central

i think what bevan means when he says that smaller towns are better for trails is that small towns ae usually more rural so people haver more land to dig trails on. cant dig no trails in an apartment

They're hardly even good for grinds, they don't even make wheel height ledges.
Can't be good for the skaters either, they'd be just as well off skating their curb than a 10" high ledge.

Also, what I was reffering to in my comment about the pro thing, the council reckons Vic is supposed to cater for pro/comp grade riders and skaters, we don't have insane riders up here because we have tiny little parks.
Look at Taupo, all the riders (and skaters) kill it, and they have an enormous park, as far as I'm concerned the bigger the ramps, the better the riders/skaters.
Whats more is that often kids from out of town come up here to ride Vic and Devo, and are often dissapointed that they're really not as great as they look, just because Vic has a box and shit, doesn't make it great, if we had something decent, then kids would come up here and be stoked to ride, rather than wondering why they bothered with the 5 hour drive.
Same goes for pro riders like Mike said.
