So, Mike thought his post below would be the last for '08 but no, I had to have the last word! Just back from my last ride for 2008, Fairfeild skate park was deserted, the sun was out, iPod was on and times were all good..... Remember, each new year should be better than the last! Peace and Love
Local Auckland shredder Stephen sent in a few really nice photos he shot over the last week or so. Its rad to see how much people are getting into riding photography and the quality of photos is getting better and better all the time. I'm thinking about setting up a photography forum up here, somewhere people can post photos, discuss equipment, techniques and so on... what do you think? good idea or not?
The first three photos are of Fraser and last two are Olly. Thanks for the photos Stephen.
This will be the last post for 2008 so hope everyone has a killer new years, be safe, have fun..... ride your bike.. see you in the 2009'.
I stopped into T Whites Bikes today on my way home from work to pick up a new pair of QC jeans (thanks Tim!), Tim had a bunch of new parts in stock so I thought I might as well take a few snaps and post some pics.
If you haven't checked out T Whites Bikes make sure you do sometime this summer: 132 Symonds St, Newton, Auckland.
A friend of mine just finished building this bike up for his girl and it got stolen on xmas eve from The Grove Restaurant in the Auckland CBD, if you know where it is or have seen it please let us know, its pretty easy to notice especially with the purple and mint green wheel set. Email me at zombie.bmx@gmail.com or hehill@gmail.com, it would be rad to get the bike back as its going to be missed!!
If you have a spare minute and want to check out some rad artwork have a look markskulls.com. Mark is an old friend and rider from Auckland city who now currently lives in London now, he is well none for his bike related art work and design.
Well I got home the other day to find my house completely turn up side down and pretty much everything I own gone, including all my clothes & shoes, the only thing really left is the computer I'm on right now, they even took some of my girl friends undies! But anyway I thought I would give everyone a heads up to keep an eye out for a really nice camera gear setup which is. Nikon D200, Nikon 10.5fish, Nikon 50mm, Nikon 24-70mm, 3x Pocket wizards, 2x Sunpak flashes, Nikon SB 80 flash, Manfrotto tripod all in a nice Lowpro camera bag. Thanks.
Here is a few photos I shot last weekend at Stanmore Bay while enjoying the amazing weatherof Brian Anzelotti, Louis Bolter and Kirk from Volucid.
In order: Brian - huge whip, Louis - icepick on the back rail, Brian - lookback, Kirk - footjam, Brian - turndown, Kirk - table, Brian - whip, Louis - downside ice, Louis - downside two peg, and this is Nate from Revolution and his brand new big as hell Canon cam.. expect some killer web clips to come from Revolution.
Nagesh from west Auckland sent in this rad little web vid of him riding Te Pai skatepark, filmed and edited in one day. Check it out for some free coaster action and some funky music.. its a pretty fun little clip. Thanks for sending it in Nagesh.
Jason Fox who is a photographer and BMXer from Tauranga has entered the world of blog .. check it out here: jasonfoxphotography. at the moment there is gnarly photos of Jed Mildon up there so make sure you check those out an keep an eye on his blog in the future for more bmx reletaed photogrpahy.
Jed Mildon sent in this rad Web vid that he just recently finished editing. Jed is seriously an amazing rider and some of the trick in this vid are nuts.. the flip he does at Taupo on the 1/4 to 1/4 box is redicouslly high. Thanks for sending it in Jed.. shits awesome!! Good luck at the BMX Games in Aus!
I headed out to the PMP trails on Saturday for the first time in 8 months and what a sweet time we had!! A good crew of dudes rolled out for .... a roll. The PMP boys have been on the spades all winter and got the place in top shape. Piggy ruled it and is turning into quite the trail boss, Mark aka Pom turned up and after a Tui was shredding hard, and Ash aka Ash had the place dialled as usual, Pete was shredding, ciggie in mouth (as usual) and flowing his broken ass trough the sets like the seasoned semi-pro that he is. Stand out of the day was Paul Langlands - he flat out shut the place down, with tonnes of tricks. He's n a but of a mission at the moment, tuning tricks up for a trip to the States in '09.... Look out!
I put a quick gallery together from the RedBull ledgends comp.. check it out.
Massive thanks to Ivan and Justin from RedBull for putting on the event and everyone who turned up to support it and ride!! After seen the amount of riders that turned up and where keen to shred the ledge I think were definitely going to have to do another Zombie Hop comp and Street jam sometime early next year!So you can look forward to that.
We ventured out to visit Waiuku bowl on the weekend just been. The bowl out there is incredible and really is a piece of history. It must have been built some time in the 70's and I'm pretty sure there is no other bowl like it. The big end of the bowl is around 12 foot and 4 foot of that is over vert which makes it so gnarly to ride. Rumor has it that its soon to be gone, the council are apparently getting rid of it to put a rail track in, when we where out there part of the concrete had already been taken away... so if you get the chance to check it out make sure you do, its one of the oldest bowls in NZ and may not be there for much longer and there definitely isn't going to be another bowl built like it. Here's a few photos.. check the kid on the brakless MTB shredding the deep end while the local girls smoke ciggies.
In Other news the Redbull Ledgends comp took place last night and was RADNESS!! Check back for photos.
First of all here is the official flyer for the RedBull Ledgends Comp which is taking place tonight! If you can be there... make sure your there! because it should be a fun time and the weather looks like its going to be alright.
Secondly check out this flyer o2project sent in, there giving away a complete Fit and all you have to do is send them an email.. rad, you cant go wrong with that! check the flyer for details.
Regular contributor Devin Parker sent in a few photos of finally finished Queenstown park, I have to say the bowl looks pretty amazing, super smooth, fast and tight. Who ever built it did an incredible job. The street section also looks fun as hell, although I have heard a bunch of people complain that it doesn't have any transition or quarters, but you have to admire the creativity of it and that fact that its not just your average wedge to fun box to wedge.
Devin also sent a couple of photos of Revolution employee Ben flowing his way through the brand new gorge road dirt jumps.. the place looks amazing! so much dirt!
You might remember a few posts back I mentioned that T.J Lavin is currently living in Queenstown, well check out this little article from the Qtwn News Paper here
