THE KINK BMX COMP @ BOYS DAY OUT
Friday, January 29, 2010
I got an email the other day from Ben Seek at InSideLine.co.nz regarding the Boys Day Out event coming up soon.
There is going to be a BMX park event at Boys Day Out this year. The event is taking place on the 13t-14th March at Mystery Creek which is just out of Hamilton. The BMX park event will be on a specifically designed wooden street course, similar to the one they had at the skate nationals at Big Boys Toys. There will be $1000 cash prize between 1st, 2nd, 3rd and $1000 worth of Kink product up for grabs. A best trick comp will also go down with some prizes for that too.
That's is all the information I have for now, but I am sure there will be more to come. I will keep you posted.
A few weeks ago I mentioned I was going to start doing product highlights on BMX parts available in NZ... so here is another one. I thought I would do a post on Meckaniks Parts brought into the country by BMX.co.nz. Although these parts are not super hi end it's was worth a post because the quality of the parts for the price is pretty amazing.. plus they are also very dialled and clean products. Mechanik's do a basic 48 splined 3-pce crank, nice simple pivotal seats, basic pivotal posts and also BB's and H/set's.
I just received a news letter from Rampage Skate park regarding their new pricing structure. The 3 day Sessions that they initially had set up has been scrapped, and there will now be a flat fee of $20 for the whole day.. which is kller! 9 hours of riding for $20!, awesome!. Rampage will also be having some new MTB and BMX sponsors coming on board and will be starting to stock bike parts in their store. All very good news!
Liam Stewart sent through this flyer for the up and coming PMP Trail Jam on the 20th of Feb. The Jam kicks of at 2pm, BYO beers and BBQ. this should be a fun day out. Proudly supported by T Whites Bikes.
Liam said he is crap at photo shop so he decided to hand paint the flyer.. looks super good! Nice work Liam.
There is a new NZ BMX based webpage & clothing company just come out called Steadfast BMX. The site looks pretty dialled and they have a bunch of good riders on their team.
So apparently the park was just fenced off and closed down for a few days so they could cut down the big Oak Tree's.. its open again and rideable. But if the LTNZ stand by their word it will be gone end of this month. But who really knows!?.
Still no finalized word on when we will be getting a replacement park.
I just heard from a very reliable source who works in the Victoria Park area of town that the whole Skate Park has officially been fenced of. There is a bulldozer and digger in the park, and all the big Oak Tree's we used to chill under have been cut down. I would say it wont be long till the whole park is gone.
Got word today that TripleSix Distro just landed their first shippment of Metal Bikes Parts.. They recieved Bars, Seats, Posts, Sprockets etc. Definlty rad to have this brand avaliable in NZ. Jimmy Levan kills!
The new issue of 2020 magazine should be in stores now. You can get it from Boarders, PaperPlus, Whitcoulls etc. The latest issue is really good, the quality of 2020 always continues to grow and so does the size of the magazine which is awesome. Below is a sneak peek of some of the NZ content in the magazine.
Heres a selection of photo from this summer, and an old one in there I found looking through my comp. Every one is getting RAD and having FUN, enjoying the weather. So get out and have a ride while the weather lasts. Left to right(Jono...... , Jordie, Mike H, Jed, J something/ im straight shit with names, Dan., Jono x Hayden synchronized one foot cans on Brands trails. )
On Monday this week, TripleSix, one of NZ's leading BMX distributors was broken into. The place was messed up a quiet bit but luckily not allot of product was taken. One of the stand out items that was stolen was a Fly Bikes Tierra 21.4"tt frame in Matte Black, apparently the only one of its kind brought into NZ by TripleSix. Keep an eye out for that on the streets, shouldn't be to hard to spot. Its never nice to hear news like this.. I'm sure TripleSix will recover well from this and continue to supply NZ with quality BMX parts in no time.
Speaking of Fly.. TripleSix just received shipment of the new 2010 frames which look amazing. Allot of attention to detail has gone into those frames. Word on the street is shredder Brian Anzellotti is running one. More on that later.
The Vans Jedi Jam is coming up very soon, it is going to take place on the 30th and 31st of January. The pro dirt comp takes place on Saturday and the am & pro park comp on Sunday.
You can find all the information you need about the jam here: JediJ@M2010.pdf
So far the riders entering in the event are: Luke Parslow Cam White Colin Mackay Dane Searles Nick Cooper Cam Pianta Shane Conlon Cory Nastazio Ryan Guettler T J Ellis Paul Langlands Jed Mildon Alex Hiam Billy Clerke Alex Cranswick Joe Simpson Alan Montefiore Alan Cameron Louis Bolter Mark Russell Caleb Davison Kane O'Hagan
With a rider list like that is going to be a pretty serious event and amazing to watch. So definitely make sure you get along and support this event. This is going to be one of the biggest events for BMX in NZ since X-Air.
Product Highlights is something that I have been wanting to do for a while now. If you know me well you will know I'm 100% into dope BMX product nearly as much as I am into riding them. So it just makes sense for me to do product highlights and share with you new BMX parts that are coming out and obviously specializing in parts that will be available in New Zealand. I'm going to try and do these at least once a week.
So here is the first Product Highlight.. the new Eclat Hannibal Stem. This stem is brought into the country by TripleSix Distro, I first spotted it at T-Whites-Bikes but should also be available in any good bike shop in NZ. The Hannibal stem is a super nice tidy front load stem, its cleverly CNC's to save weight and has a nice clean finish. With 50mm reach, weighing 303g and available in Black, Grey, Red, Green you cant really go wrong. It also has a unique offset rear which apparently improves clamping on your forks.
Some of you may not know but Rampage has an official website, check it out here: rampagebikepark.com It has all the information you need to know about the park, including session times, pricing, contact information, location and a few photos from the park.
Me and the Wazman went out a few weekends ago with photographer Tim Pierce to New Lynn and Lynnfield bowls to shoot some photos. Tim had recently purchased a whole new camera set up and was testing it out with some riding shot's for the first time. Check out the photos below, they came out really nice, Tim is definitely a talented photographer.
DISHONOUR CALIFORNIA SUNNIES
Friday, January 8, 2010
I meet James Wade a 3 or 4 years ago in Adelaide, he was a super nice guy and a dialled rider, ever since then I have been following his blog.. ugzine.com. James is a motivated guy and definitely gets things done.. he also runs Dishonour Clothing and produces monthly photo books through his personal photogrpahy site.. jamesdwade.com.
I spotted these Sunnies over at www.focalpointbmx.com and thought they were worth a post. Its not very often you see a local BMX company produce a killer set of sunnies. Go to Dishonour Clothing for details on how to order.
