A little late but here is a few photos from the comp at Rampage last Sunday. It was a pretty chill event and a nice fun way to spend a Sunday.
Highlights: Brian Anzellotti's 360 Tables are always fun to watch. Alam Montefiore's Flip Fakie on the roll in.. pretty gnarly! Cant remember his name.. but the kid from Tauranga who did a massive tuck no hander flip.
Massive thanks to Gavin from Rampage for putting on the event.
Paul Beadle sent in this photo of him hopping a double chain along the water front of Auckland. We all know Beadle has a huge hop on him but this double chain hop is so ganrly! He said he only just rode out of it.. looks scary as hell.
Derek Blaikie who is a super good flatland BMXer from Auckland had his bike stolen a few nights ago from his car in Manukau.
The Specs are: Small (18.8tt) matte gray flatland bike - Inertia Unit Elite, green bars with no backsweep, black wheels, gray suelo pegs, brown wtp sprocket. got a crack on one of the rear dropouts and few spokes broken. Thompson elite seatpost, no brakes.
This bike should stick out from the crowd as it's a pretty unique bike, if anyone can help contact Derek at.. easy853@gmail.com... Lets help him get his bike back!
This video popped up on TCU the other day and thought it would be worth post seen as it's 100% filmed in NZ, not to mention it's Ruben.. one of the best, if not the best rider in the world.
Hemi Mildon sent in this nice little web edit of his friend from Taupo Miki.. Thanks Hemi!
I spotted this over on the Forums.. is this suppose to be the future of BMX? It must be light weight and easy for travel.. I guess there isn't going to be a lot of grinds going on in the future?
If I was going to predict the future of BMX I hope it would look a little more like this..
The Melm 24's are hand built in the USA.. they are some what ugly, but you have to admire the craftsmanship behind them. And some of the features I hope we will see in the future of BMX, like the flush head set cap, the covered axle nuts, internal cables and hidden internal seat post clamps... I'm not saying these features look great on the Melm's.. but they are pretty trick and hopefully give some inspiration to push BMX design in a more creative direction with out going in stupid direction like the concept above or products like the KHE 1pce stem & bar (hate).
Gavin from Rampage Bike Park sent in some more details about the Box of Trix contest happening this weekend on Sunday, 21st: What is it? It's a fun competition open to riders of all ages and levels giving you a chance to compete with your friends or to show off your style to win cash and spot prizes.
Program for the day 09:00am Registration/practice 10:00am Elimination pool 1 10:45am Elimination pool 2 11:30am Elimination pool 3 12:15pm Elimination pool 4 01:15pm Prize giving 01:30pm Comp finished ride the park 06:00pm Rampage closed
How the competition will be run? The competition will begin with 4 pools comprised of 16 riders as per the following:
Pool #1 Mountain bikes x16 riders Pool #2 Open BMX 1 x16 riders Pool #3 Open BMX 2 x16 riders Pool #4 Pro BMX x16 riders
To start the elimination 2 names (from the same pool) will be drawn out of a bucket the first name selected will ride first the other will follow. The person with the highest score after their 2 runs will move onto the next round the loser will drop out, this will continue until there’s only 1 person left standing that person will win the pool and take away the cash prize.
The course: The course will be down the roller and over either the big or small lines (you choose) to the vert wall, you will get 2 runs in a row (4 tricks) your tricks will be added up at the end of your second run and that will be your final score. Tricks can be the same if you choose. Scoring: There’s a list of 20 different tricks ranging from one-handers to superman seat-grabs the harder the trick the bigger the score you will only be scored by doing tricks from the BOX OF TRIX LIST (thus the name)
This list will be up before practice so you will be able to plan your attack beforehand!
The tricks you choose will have to be pulled off clean to earn their maximum points as the judge/judges will reduce the points if the trick is messy, only partially executed or you case.
Spot prizes There will be a bunch of spot prizes from ABD, SR Cycles, Red Bull and ADIO that will be drawn at the end of the competition but if you are not here to collect the prize it will be re-drawn immediately.

So many people / riders / photographers out there are starting blogs now which is super rad.. The thing with blogs is you only ever really stumble across them from time to time, and then can never remember how you got to that particular blog or how you found it. So I thought I would start a new segment on Zombie called 'Blog Love'.. basically I will be posting random links to blogs I have found, usually rider related. Its a good way to share the ever growing BMX community with all the people who check out this site.
The first blog I am going to post is Cheap Thrills BMX, this is Robbie Brown from Christchurch's personal blog. It has lots of interesting posts and snaps from Robbie and riders around ChCh. Robbie is a rad guy and a really good rider.. so definitely worth keeping an eye on. cheapthrillsbmx.blogspot.com
Andrew Lazaruk was in NZ for last month all they way from Kelowna, Canada. Here's a couple photos I took of him last weekend. The first one is a straight wall ride.. the last one is a wall ride to 180. See you next time Lazer!
TRIPLE SIX BROKEN INTO AGAIN
Monday, February 8, 2010
Ok.. so this is shit news but Triple Six distribution was broken into for the third time this weekend. It has become very obvious that the person doing this is either a rider or has very good knowledge of BMX. The reason I say this is because the person particularly went through all the brands Triple Six distributes to steel only Fly Bikes products. Which means they must really like Fly!.. and knew exactly what they where looking for!
Here is a list of what was taken on the last break in: Fly Circulo sprockets, Black, White, Purple, Fly Montana brakeless frame Dark Grey Fly Lago frame Black Fly Agua forks Black and White Fly Potencia f/load and Alta t/load stems Black Fly Pantera bars, Black and Red Fly brake lever
All the frames and forks feature the invest cast dropouts which should make them stand out.
So if you see anyone rolling around town on a new, tricked out BMX with allot of Fly parts, including the new lever and frame/fork with invest cast drop outs which not allot of riders in NZ would have yet, its a good chance they are the offender! They shouldn't be hard to spot!
Triple Six are going to offer a reward for any info leading to the arrest of the people and recovery of the goods. Please don't ask in the comments what the reward is but it will definitely be worth it.
This is the Victoria Skatepark concept design. From what I have heard it looks like it will not be going into construction for up to 3 years, not until the motorway tunnel project is completed. As everyone is well aware the current park will be going very soon. To fill the gap between when the original VIC park is gone and the new one goes into construction there will be a temporary facility created. Most likely on the old bowling green with a few ledges and wedges.
In other park related news.. below is the finalized design for the Barry Curtis Park in Botany. Looks awesome!.. this park is due to go into construction in March.. and I have been told it must be completed by the end of the financial year, which is very soon! Good news!
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT - FLY LEVER
Friday, February 5, 2010
I thought I would do a product highlight on the new Fly Bikes BMX lever.. mostly because I went out today and purchased one for myself and I was super impressed with it. In my opinion this is one of the best levers on the market, it's the perfect shape, the bend in the lever is just right. It's also very solid and looks like it would be super strong. The lever is nice and smooth with no sharp edges to cut your fingers on. Fly is well known for making really good quality parts and this lever is no different. Another dialed part from Fly.
The guys from BMX.co.nz have organized a street ride for this Sunday coming. Its going to be a pretty casual event, an opportunity to get out a ride a bunch of Auckland's best street spots with a good crew of riders. The ride starts at 1pm, meet at the brick banks across the road from Food Town on Quay St.
Auckland's oldest bowl at the age of 30+ just got a complete make over from some very dedicated and passionate skaters who wanted to preserve the history of the park. New Lynn is pretty well known around NZ and internationally, especially for its super tight full pipe and snake run. Now the park has been finished, 30 years later, it has just become a whole lot more fun to ride. We went to check it out last night and had a ride with some of the local shredders. Its definitely worth checking out if you want to ride something unusual and different.
Hemi Mildon sent in a bunch more photos from the Vans Jedi Jam.. thanks Hemi! Also spotted a write up about that jam over at the Haro BMX webpage from Nasty.. worth a look.
